Hello there, my name is Paul and I live in Stafford, also the Midlands.
Does anyone know of any groups for sufferers?
I'm still the only person I know who has SAD (eight years after diagnosis).
I'd like to be able to compare notes with other people in our 'club'.

Hi Paul,
there's a SAD Association which sends out quarterly letters, contact addresses & other useful stuff. Contact on:-

SADA PO Box989, STEYNING BN44 3HG

They also do info on various forms of therapy & publish the odd poem. There are more of us out here. Sharon

Hi Karl, I live in central Portsmouth. Which is great for latitude & light reflected off the sea. Not so great cos it's all Victorian terraced houses & a bit dark. Good to have other SADdies to chat with. Sharon

Hello Karl & Everyone,
My name is Paula, I live in Feltham, Middlesex, not far from Heathrow airport. I work in Staines, which is near the Thames, lovely in the summer! I'm new to 'surfing' - have only just branched out from the BBC site today. I was diagnosed with SAD in 1998, although for some years suffered without really knowing what was wrong - being a woman my GP tried changing my pill and things like this before I got any real help. Anyway do not want to bore anyone with similar stories to your own.
Really just wanted to say Hi - it's great to know that there are other people like me out there, I have felt very alone with this for some years (some of your comments brought tears to my eyes). Thanks, try to stay happy :-) And keep chatting - we need to stick together now that it is our 'special time of the year'.

Hello, I am from Fife in Scotland and was diagnosed with SAD in 1998. Like Paula I suffered for several years before discovering what was wrong with me.
I now use a combination of lightbox, antidepressant and multi vitamin/mineral supplement.

It is our 2. winter on the Isle of Lewis/Western Isles in Scotland. Though my sister and I are not diagnosed with SAD or any other depression we are sure to be suffering from it. We are interested to learn from other people living in northern Britain how to deal with that SADness.
By the way: Both of us are not experienced
chatters on the Internet!

I'm from Gateshead (nr Newcastle) but now living in Hebden Bridge, West Yorks.

Been 11 years since my first diagnosed depression, and about 8 years since i diagnosed myself with SAD. Finally got a doc who knows something about SAD (a psychiatrist) but he admits I probably know more than he does!

Hi, Karl - I'm from the Isle of Man. Moved here nearly five years ago and my SAD has definitely got worse (Diagnosed with chronic depression about 8 years ago, and it's worse in the winter). It's a lovely place, but dear me - what a climate! May is supposed to be our best month, and usually is, but something has gone drastically wrong this time!

Hi there,

Don't feel like you are on your own - there are lots of sites out there, so get 'surfing'. Use a search engine and look for highly sensitive people or depression (although try to stay light hearted don't read too much into what people say - remember they don't know you as well as you know yourself).

If you read the comments on this message forum, people have made a lot of suggestions to try and elevate some of the symptoms of SAD.

On the subject of lightboxes - I would say 'go for it'. You will find it is money well spent. I have two small desk top ones, one which I use at work and one which I use at home.

Good luck, try to keep smiling even on a cloudy day. If nothing else it makes people wonder what you have been up to ;-)

Take care.
Paula
P.S - your english is ok, well I understood you!!

Hi from Madrid, Spain !

I'm 37, suffer chronic depression, and I'm very, very tired of this bloody disease that is so brutal.

I am investigating today about SAD, as it came to my mind when reading something and realized that the light and the food are such important factors in my disease.

Is it possible to have permanent SAD?? After all, I live in the center of the city, and there is no light at all. Many days I need to go to stare at the sun in the park as I feel so weak. I don't really notice about the seasons, the amount of light in my place is always ridiculous and also in any place you work, so...

Best regards for all

Hi Karl, :D

Im from Burnley (Lancashire) and Aldershot (Hampshire) - well, Im commutng between the two on a regular basis, as I live down south and my partner lives oop north!

Strange as it seems, Im always better up in burnley - i guess thats because I spend more time outdoors - walking the dogs etc.. and up on the moors where the light is good.
