Hello

I am already dreading the thought of the clocks changing, and so have decided to invest in a light box but I don't know where to start, there seems to be so much choice and difference in price range. The same with daylight bulbs - some cost 4.99 and others 15.99! Can anyone advise me about a good reliable place to buy these things from. And do dawn simulators work for any of you? All advice would be really gratefully received,

Best,

Sam

hello, I feel the satellite from outside in is a really good lamp, As with all lightboxes overpriced but due to the light it gives out and the flexibilty of being a lamp i would recommend it. I like to use the dawn simulater and then put a light box on a digital time switch so the lamp comes in near the peak of the dawn simulators light. I try to read under the lamp for a bit to wakre up before heading off to work. best of luck siddy

Hi there Sam

Yes, it is a daunting thought the clocks going back later on and the same old problem rearing its ugly face......however, IT'S SUMMER :D so one step at a time and live for today, because with a lightbox you will probably not experience full blown SAD again anyway!

You ask about Dawn Simulators ~ well, they are the most user friendly 'alarm' clock ever invented. They give the user a sense of wellbeing ushering one gently into the day without trauma. I am sure they complement the lightbox perfectly, but am not convinced that standalone they would completely manage SAD. But, I use mine all year!

Lightboxes ~ see the OutsideIn website pages, they also have a page which helps you find a lightbox which suits your lifestyle.

I began with an Apollo Lightbox, but found it huge and unwieldy, I returned it for a Satellite which is like a rather large angle poise lamp, very versatile and convenient. Used for 1-2 hours a day, every morning, from 1 September through to about 10 April it literally works wonders. If summer days are particularly gloomy I will also take the odd hour then ~ it works like a charm. I just wish I had bought one years ago but the expense put me off, but now that I am SAD-free the price seems to have been such a silly thing to worry about, especially when I consider all those wasted winters......

So good luck, give them a ring @ OutsideIn, they are incredibly helpful and tremendously understanding. They have a 21 day 'money back if not successful' guarantee, so there is really nothing to lose, except your SAD of course! Perhaps the best time to buy is the moment you feel SAD arrive in the autumn, your lightbox will arrive in about 3 days, and after roughly 4-7 days of use will prove its worth to you! Like that you would feel comforted to know that if by some really strange chance it does not work for you there is the opportunity to return if for a refund within 21 days.

Let us know how you get on.......... Julie
